GCSE Dance Spreadsheet with weightings / formulas to help forecast pupils levels (1-9)

(1)
This resource is for teachers of GCSE dance who want to forecast what levels their dancers will get in their GCSEs based on the 2018 grade boundaries. Either use it to keep an up to date track of pupils scores from their assessments or use it to enter predicted scores, guide conversations with pupils or to answer questions such as ‘how many more marks would I need to get a level…” Cells coloured in a peach colour are cells that contain formulas. I have coloured them to remind me to not touch them. I recommend keeping a copy of the original file just in case something vital to making the spreadsheet run smoothly is accidently deleted.

This resource is for teachers of GCSE dance. With the help of the online AQA glossary, I have created a excel document with 3 tabs: Choreography, Performance and Appreciation. I have printed and laminated each tab (A3) to use as posters in my dance studio. My dancers find these posters really helpful to refer to in class.

Updated: 11/08/22 This ‘Gumboot Dance’ 6 lesson SOL is for teachers teaching KS3 dance. This SOL explores the history and evolution of South African Gumboot dance. Pupils will gain and develop basic dance appreciation skills through watching clips of Gumboot dancing and '“Gumboots” Through the eyes of Michael Moloi which will lead into discussions about the history of the style in relation to actions, space, dynamics and relationships. Props are introduced from lesson 4 and inspiration on how to use them is drawn from Stomp the Musical. Pupils will gain and develop basic performance and choreography skills through working as a whole class to perform set Gumboot rhythms using unison, repetition and action and reaction. Working in small groups, pupils are encouraged to be creative and are allocated time to experiment and improvise choreographic ideas with their groups resulting in a group performance of their Gumboot choreographies that include a prop. Pupils will have the opportunity to view each other’s work and provide feedback to improve their own and other’s work. This SOL also provides pupils with research homework tasks to promote independence and research skills needed at KS4. Includes: 6 lesson (60 min per lesson) delivery PowerPoint with: ‘Enquiry questions’, ‘Do Now’ activities, ‘TIF (Take It Further) challenges’, YouTube clips, level descriptors and YouTube links to my Gumboot tutorials. Y9 GCSE Dance Taster: Choreography 12 lesson delivery PowerPoint and Resources

(0)
This year 9 GCSE Dance Taster: Choreography 12 lesson delivery PowerPoint has been created for teachers of Dance preparing their Year 9 pupils for GCSE. During lessons 1-6, pupils will explore a variety of different stimuli used in choreography e.g. 2D art and text. Pupils will learn how to create and develop motifs based on a stimulus, structure their choreographies and experimenting with choreographic devices. During lessons 7-12, pupils will choose from a list of stimuli (based on the actual GCSE component 1 exam paper), take part in research tasks and choreograph their own group choreography. At the end of the SOW, pupils will be assessed using the GCSE choreography mark sheet. Each lesson comes with starters (bell activities) and lesson objectives. The SOW also includes: Homework 1 – Choreography exam style questions (based on section A of the written dance exam paper) Homework 2 – Programme note with examples. Choreography help sheet (I advise printing this out back to back and laminating for each group) Research task (theory lesson). Please note, the video included in the PowerPoint is from Eaqa. You can use your own example video if you prefer.

KS3 Y9 Dance - All Around The World SOL - 17 lessons

(0)
This resource is for teachers teaching dance at KS3. This SOL was created with my Year 9 class in mind. However can be adapted to suit your own class/year group. My ‘All Around The World’ SOL was created to explore known and lesser known dance styles from around the world. The SOL begins with 5x2 hours worth of workshops exploring different dance styles/countries/continents . Pupils then choose which country/continent/dance style they will represent in the showcase that features at the end of the SOL. This resource comes with: 2 hour Britain dance workshop PowerPoint 2 hour Africa dance workshop PowerPoint 2 hour Asia dance workshop PowerPoint 2 hour South America workshop PowerPoint (which includes my own YouTube tutorial) 2 hour USA workshop PowerPoint 7 hour/week ‘Create, Perform and Evaluate’ delivery PowerPoint Create laminated handout resource (intended to be printed back to back so that the TIF is on 1 side and the normal task is on the other). SOL overview I created this SOL before I started my maternity leave. Therefore, there are lots of YouTube links to help a non dance specialist deliver the dance content. Some teachers played the YouTube clips directly to the pupils, others chose to lean the content from the clip but teach the pupils themselves. Feel free to use this SOL as you wish and edit and change it until your heart is content. All YouTube clips worked at the time of creating this SOL. Enjoy! :)

KS3 Dance - Year 8 - Objects as Stimulus - 6 lesson SOL and Resources

Updated: 11/08/22 This ‘Objects as Stimulus’ 6 lesson SOL is for teachers teaching KS3 dance. This ‘Objects as Stimulus’ resource is an alternative resource to my ‘Artificial Things’ resource. The difference between the 2 resources is that ‘objects as Stimulus’ can be taught to pupils at KS3 who will progress to either GCSE or BTEC at KS4. Whereas my previous ‘Artificial Things’ resource was aimed at KS3 pupils who would progress to GCSE only. This SOL has been designed to encourage pupils to use their imagination and apply their creativity at the same time as developing their dance skills. Choreography skills are homed in on in this SOL, as pupils are given an object as a stimulus (the box) and taught how to create motifs that can be later on developed to create a dance that is entertaining to watch. Later on in the SOL, pupils choose their own object as a stimulus to create and develop their own motifs into their own choreographies. Throughout the choreography tasks, dance appreciation is explored through questioning why pupil’s motifs relate to their object stimulus and what actions, space, dynamics and relationships they have used. Includes: 6 lesson (60 min per lesson) delivery PowerPoint with: ‘Enquiry questions’, ‘Do Now’ activities, ‘TIF (Take It Further) challenges’, YouTube clips and level descriptors. AQA GCSE Dance Y10 Year's worth of lessons

This resource is for teachers of AQA GCSE dance. This is my years worth of Year 10 planning/PowerPoints/resources. Each half term focuses on one of the professional works from the GCSE Dance anthology; exploring the professional work through choreography, performance and appreciation tasks (following the advice from AQA). This resource is tried and tested and I am proud to say that my pupils have enjoyed the variety of tasks included and have felt confident completing year 10 in preparation for Year 11. The Year’s worth of resources should be followed in the following order: 1st Half term – Emancipation of Expressionism 2nd Half term – Artificial Things 3rd Half Term – Shadows 4th Half Term – A Linha Curva 5th Half term – Infra 6th Half Term – Within Her Eyes Note: I am not currently teaching GCSE dance (currently teaching BTEC Performing Arts instead) and therefore not currently using this resource. The last time I checked, all links and QR codes worked. Links to the anthology performances are from EAQA. If any links stop working, please find the updated ones on EAQA. I hope you enjoy this resource and it saves you time planning :)

KS4 AQA GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: Section C This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising the dance anthology in preparation for the written exam. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. Prior to the lesson, decide how you are going to divide your class into 6 groups (ideally a mixture of high and low ability in each group). Each group should be given a large piece of paper with one of the 6 dance anthology pieces written in the middle, then use the PowerPoint. I spent approximately 5 min per slide and got the pupils to rotate around the room rather than the paper. You will need the six anthology fact files found on the AQA GCSE Dance website for the latter part of the lesson. Once the lesson is complete you will have revision display posters created by the dance pupils themselves.

The PowerPoint is structured around my choreography of ‘Jail House Rock’ From the Blues Brothers musical and some of the terminology used e.g. ‘pancake roll’ is terminology that I use rather than being a technical term. This is not a PowerPoint that you will be able to use unedited. Feel free to edit for whichever Rock and Roll song you would like to use. Includes: • 6 lesson (60 min per lesson) delivery PowerPoint with: ‘Enquiry questions’, ‘Do Now’ activities, ‘TIF (Take It Further) challenges’, YouTube clips and level descriptors. • STAR marking grid • Mark sheet • Dance feedback toolkit

KS4 AQA GCSE Dance Revision – Component 2: 12 mark questions This resource has been designed for teachers of GCSE dance revising the dance anthology in preparation for the written exam. This lesson has been created to provide a way for dance students to revise in a fun and interactive way. There are many ways to use this resource: Make it into a game: print out the 1st slide and cut the boxes out. Pupils can pick the boxes at random and have a go at answering the questions on the second slide. Differentiation: You can pre pick the questions prior to the lesson based on your pupil’s strengths and areas of weakness to challenge your pupils appropriately. Print out the 2nd slide for them with their differentiated question on. Whole class activity: As a class decide on a question to tackle and discuss the question together before allowing the pupils to have a go at writing their answers. Homework revision: Print out the PowerPoint for your pupils to allow them to practice the 12 mark questions at home. Enjoy!
